Poetry Song
May 10, 2010I was watching the old movie Bed of Roses earlier. I heard Sarah MacLachlan’s song called Ice Cream. I just like hearing that song because the lyrics are so sweet. It’s what poetry is all about – being able to express what one feel through words. If music fits, it makes the poem even more special and magical. Anyway, if you haven’t heard the song before, you should Google it out. Here are the words to the song. I wasn’t kidding when I said they were sweet… 🙂
Your love is better than ice cream
Better than anything else that I’ve tried
And your love is better than ice cream
Everyone here know how to fight
And it’s a long way down
It’s a long way down
It’s a long way down to the place
Where we started from
Your love is better than chocolate
Better than anything else that I’ve tried
Oh love is better than chocolate
Everyone here knows how to cry
It’s a long way down
It’s a long way down
It’s a long way down to the place
Where we started from…

Not Another Lonely Day
April 12, 2010I had no idea that listening to Ben Harper could be very depressing. I mean, he has some jolly tunes, but most of them were really about loneliness. Even Jack Johnson had the same miserable tone on some of his songs.
I am currently listening to Ben Harper’s Another Lonely Day. I used to like this a lot. But I find it depressing now. The song is perfect for beach afternoons, but at 4PM, when everybody is in a hurry to get home and watch their favorite shows on the boob tube, the sad and tearful lyrics of Ben Harper’s song was just not a good fit. Maybe I liked it during a time in my life when I was not generally happy yet or when I was still unsure of who I was and where I stood.
My point: It’s not just “Tell me who your friends are, and I’ll tell you who you are” for me. It’s also, “Tell me what your favorite song is, and I’ll tell you what disposition you have” that applies. I guess I should try to analyze my current favorite songs and see what they can reveal about me. 🙂
