Shakespearean
February 11, 2010Since I am, again, a part of Thursday Poet’s Rally, I came up with this sonnet. This is supposed to be a Shakespearean type of poetry, so I’m including it in my poetry project as well. I’m not sure if I got the poetry right. But I hope you still enjoy this. 🙂 This poem is called “The Writer” because I ran out of titles. I couldn’t think of a good title. I can entertain suggestions, though. 🙂
The Writer
To know you is to love you more dearly.
I long to see you and have you near me.
With you by my side I see more clearly;
In love with you is all I’d want to be.
And when the days go by, I think of you-
Your smile, your touch, your laughter and your kiss.
I keep imagining; that’s all I do.
Everything about you, I really miss.
I pray the day we meet shall come again,
But till that day comes, I’ll have loneliness.
Thinking about you every now and then,
Without you my world is full of blankness.
All of these words for you I’d gladly write,
Till the day you’re no longer out of sight.

For some reason, the line, “I keep imagining; that’s all I do” really jumps out to me…I can see this as a great switch from traditional perspective.
I think I’d go with a title like “Writing Through Your Eyes,” highlighting not only what you feel, but what you imagine the one you’re waiting for feels, as well.
Good on you for experimenting with different poetic forms. I’m trying to get up the nerve to do more of that, myself (I think I’m messing up Haiku, though…I thought it was 7/5/7 and it turns out to be the other way around XD Oh well, maybe I’ll just make it into something of my own).

Nice work Ishabelle! I’ve tried with some sonnets on my blog too, try Italian type loose Shakesperian (as this one is!) Is really hard to get the rhymes lol! Good going!
yup, i agree, it’s hard to get the rhymes.. but i find the meters harder… ugh! you really need to be passionate about writing poetry in order for writing to be fun and meaningful. 🙂
I totally agree, sometimes writing is still the only thing in my life that makes any sense whatsoever
me too… i really love to write… it’s the only thing that makes me say whatever I want to say without offending people… 🙂

i spent about 8 months away from my wife working a job…i can home about a year ago, but your words took me back there…

Sonnets are hard, but I like that the format doesn’t seem forced or restrict what you’re trying to say. I like it. 🙂

I like it:) I never really think about how I write… I just do it… it probably breaks all rules of poetry:)
aahahahha… me too… i really like free verse because it gives me all the freedom to write… 🙂 but I just wanted to try the strcter rules, for a change… thanks for the comment… 🙂
